Mary A Byler Obituary, Death; Woman killed after truck slams into buggy in Geauga County

Mary A Byler Obituary, Death;- A woman who was riding in a horse-drawn buggy was tragically ejected after a commercial truck collided with it in Geauga County, as confirmed by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers from the OSHP Chardon Post were dispatched to the accident on US-422 near OH-528 in Parkman Township at around 7:39 a.m. on Sunday, October 12.

According to OSHP, a 2019 red Volvo commercial truck, operated by a 31-year-old man from Dearborn, Michigan, was traveling east on US-422 behind the horse and buggy.

The truck impacted the rear of the buggy, resulting in the ejection of both the man and the woman who were inside, as reported by OSHP.

The female passenger succumbed to her injuries at the scene, according to OSHP.

She has been identified by OSHP as 60-year-old Mary A. Byler from Burton.

The 62-year-old man who was controlling the buggy was airlifted to University Hospitals Medical Center in Cleveland with serious injuries, as stated by OSHP.

The driver of the commercial truck was unharmed, as confirmed by OSHP, and he was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the incident.

OSHP did not provide information regarding whether the horse sustained any injuries in the collision.

OSHP indicated that alcohol or drugs do not seem to be contributing factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.

First responders from Parkman Township, Troy, Middlefield, and Community Care provided assistance to the Ohio Department of Transportation and deputies from the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
