Cesar Alejandro Cuevas-Morales,Talmage L Ellis Obituary, Death; – Authorities have publicly disclosed the identities of two men who were killed in separate homicides in Portland over the past weekend.

Cesar Alejandro Cuevas-Morales, aged 32, originally from Venezuela, was fatally shot in the 3400 block of Southeast 130th Avenue at approximately 3:40 a.m. on Saturday, according to a statement from the Portland Police Bureau.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered him deceased, and as of now, police have not reported any arrests related to his murder.

On Sunday, Talmage L. Ellis, 57, was fatally stabbed in Dawson Park around 1:15 p.m., as reported by the police.

Jermaine D. McKenzie, aged 50, has been taken into custody in connection with this case.

Witnesses informed the police that a gun was discharged during the incident. Emergency responders transported Ellis to the nearby Emanuel Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, according to police reports. The Multnomah County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Ellis died from stab wounds sustained during the assault.

These two homicides represent the 32nd and 33rd killings in Portland this year, and a fatal shooting that occurred in Portland’s St. Johns neighborhood on Tuesday will increase the total to 34 if the medical examiner classifies it as a homicide.

Homicide rates surged in Portland during and immediately following the Covid-19 pandemic, reaching unprecedented levels; however, the number of killings has significantly decreased over the past couple of years.

At this time last year, there were 58 homicides recorded in Portland.
