Jose Caudillo,Joey Gomez Obituary, Death; – A man from Montclair was charged on Monday with murder and additional offenses for allegedly leading law enforcement on a pursuit that culminated in a wrong-way rollover accident on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway in Pomona, resulting in the deaths of two individuals.
Erick Daniel Bolanos, aged 30, is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday in a Pomona courtroom, facing two counts of murder along with one count each of evading a pursuing peace officer, which caused serious bodily injury, and possessing a concealed weapon in a vehicle, as reported by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
The charges include claims that the defendant caused significant bodily harm and that the firearm in his possession was loaded but not registered to him, with unspent ammunition also found in his immediate vicinity, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
Pomona Police Department officers were pursuing a black BMW X6 on the westbound freeway around 4:45 p.m. last Friday when the driver began traveling in the wrong direction near Kellogg Drive, lost control, and crashed into a dirt embankment, as stated by CHP Officer Sergio Garcia to City News Service.
The BMW rolled multiple times onto the transition road from the northbound Chino Valley (71) Freeway, Garcia reported. The driver, identified as Bolanos, was swiftly apprehended by the police.
Two passengers in the BMW were ejected during the crash and were pronounced dead at the scene. They were later identified as Jose Caudillo, 38, and Joey Gomez, 34, both of whom succumbed to blunt traumatic injuries, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office. A third passenger, a 45-year-old man, suffered non-life-threatening abdominal injuries and was transported to Pomona Valley Hospital for medical care, as reported by the police.
Additionally, a 44-year-old woman driving a white Toyota C-HR on the transition road was struck by debris from the BMW; however, she did not sustain any injuries. The California Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation into the crash, with support from the CHP Baldwin Park Area.
