Bryant Carter Obituary, Death; – An individual from Ohio has lost his life, and a local news reporter has been hospitalized following injuries sustained in a shooting, according to police reports.

Winnie Dortch, a journalist with WOIO 19 News, is currently recuperating from surgery at MetroHealth Medical Center after being shot during an incident that took place early Monday morning in Lakewood, a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio.

Lakewood police stated that officers received a report of a dispute between two individuals around 8 a.m. on Monday, October 7. As officers were en route to the location, dispatchers received multiple 911 calls indicating that gunfire had been heard.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered Dortch with at least one serious gunshot wound, while a man later identified as 34-year-old Bryant Carter was found deceased at the scene. Lakewood Police Captain Gary Stone informed local NBC affiliate WKYC Studios and ABC affiliate News 5 Cleveland that it is believed Carter took his own life after shooting Dortch.

Authorities indicated that Dortch and Carter were known to each other. WKYC reported that a priest from St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church confirmed their connection as members of the Clifton Early Learning Center community, which was closed for the day in the aftermath of the shooting.

“This is a tragedy,” Father Kevin Elbert remarked to the media regarding the incident. “This is so close to home. Any loss of life is a tragic event, particularly in a place that is considered sacred.” WOIO reported that Dortch’s surgery was successful, describing the news as “fantastic” during a broadcast on Monday afternoon.

“This morning, our friend and colleague Winnie Dortch was the victim of a brutal domestic violence attack. She was swiftly transported to MetroHealth Medical Center and underwent surgery for her injuries,” stated Brian Sinclair, News Director at WOIO. “Our thoughts and prayers are with her, her young daughter, and the numerous other victims of domestic violence in our community.” Dortch previously served at CBS 58 in Milwaukee, as noted by the outlet. Last month, Dortch announced.
