Melinda Green Obituary, Death; – The Lorain police are conducting an investigation into the fatal shooting of a 45-year-old woman, having identified her 16-year-old son as a suspect.
Officers were dispatched shortly before 7 a.m. on Sunday, August 31, to the 1500 block of West 24th Street following a report of an unresponsive woman, as stated in a news release.
They discovered 45-year-old Melinda Green inside the residence, where she had sustained a gunshot wound to the head, according to the release. Emergency medical services attempted to perform life-saving measures; however, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators uncovered evidence indicating that Green’s 16-year-old son may have been the one to shoot her. He fled the scene prior to the arrival of the police but was located hours later walking on the west side of the city and subsequently taken into custody, as per the release.
The police have charged the boy with murder. He is currently being held at the Lorain County Juvenile Detention Home, according to the release.
Authorities have yet to recover a firearm associated with the shooting.
