Cameron Powell Obituary, Death; – A man from Vidor has been confirmed as the individual who lost his life in an industrial accident on Thursday. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 8:30 a.m. regarding an injured worker at the Beaumont Clean Ammonia facility located in the 6300 block of Twin City Highway.
According to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office, the worker had fallen while performing tasks inside a tank. Emergency responders transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Cameron Powell from Vidor, and his next of kin has been informed. An autopsy has been ordered by Judge Justin Chesson.
A statement from Woodside Energy acknowledged the worker’s death at the site. The Beaumont Clean Ammonia facility is owned by Woodside Energy, with construction overseen by OCI. The incident took place during ongoing work activities at the location, and all other personnel present are safe and accounted for. Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill expressed her condolences, stating, “This is a very sad day, and I offer my deepest sympathy to our colleague’s family, friends, and workmates.
The safety of our workforce is always our top priority, and we are providing full support to OCI and its contracting company. We are taking steps to understand the circumstances surrounding this tragic event and are collaborating closely with the relevant authorities, regulators, OCI, and the contractor company. A comprehensive investigation will be launched, and all work has been temporarily halted.” Senior management from Woodside is en route to the Beaumont Clean Ammonia site to offer support to the employees there.
