Tayvon Michael Dawson Obituary, Death; – Two drivers lost their lives and a passenger sustained critical injuries in a fiery head-on collision that resulted in the closure of Route 460 for several hours in Sussex County on Sunday afternoon, as reported by authorities.

Troopers responded to the two-vehicle accident at 1:50 p.m., according to officials from Virginia State Police. The initial investigation revealed that a Ford Fusion traveling west on Route 460 crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Jeep Patriot heading east.

“The Ford ignited immediately upon impact, severely burning the driver,” troopers stated. The driver of the Jeep, identified as 27-year-old Tayvon Michael Dawson from Henrico, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials.

The passenger in the Jeep, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was airlifted to VCU Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, troopers reported. Authorities have also not yet released the identity of the Ford’s driver.

Troopers indicated that neither speed nor alcohol seemed to be factors contributing to the crash.

“This remains an active and ongoing investigation into the crash,” officials noted.

Route 460 was closed for several hours due to the incident.
