Morgan Thornton Arrested; – New information surfaced on Thursday regarding a Limestone County woman who has been charged with capital murder in connection with the death of her infant son.
Morgan Thornton underwent a preliminary hearing on Thursday.
The sole witness summoned to provide testimony was Martin Evans, an investigator from the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office.
Evans reported that he was called to Thornton’s residence at 1:30 a.m. on August 1. He noted that in the room where Thornton’s son Jonah slept, there was blood present on the walls, floor, and a diaper genie.
According to Evans, an autopsy revealed that the cause of the boy’s death was blunt force trauma.
During the court proceedings on Thursday, it was also alleged that the boy’s father informed another investigator that Thornton awakened him and claimed she had killed a “demon.”
Thornton then purportedly guided the boy’s father to the room where the child was found lying on the diaper genie.
When medical personnel arrived and attempted to administer CPR to the child outside the residence, Evans stated that Thornton appeared to be in distress, attempted to intervene, and subsequently began to shout.
Evans testified that Thornton confessed to the medics that she had struck her child three times.
Additionally, court testimony on Thursday disclosed that two pints of vodka and two empty shooters were discovered at the scene. The results of Thornton’s blood alcohol test are still pending.
The judge determined that there is probable cause for the case to be presented to a grand jury. Thornton is currently being held in the Limestone County Jail without bond.
