Jianqin Zhang Obituary, Death;- A man from Little Canada will serve nearly two decades in prison after admitting to the murder of a woman at an Eagan hotel in 2023.
As stated by the Dakota County Attorney’s office, Kathryn Keena, Philip Jedidiah Wong, aged 27, was sentenced to 240 months (20 years) in prison on Wednesday for the murder of 53-year-old Jianqin Zhang from China.
Wong will receive credit for 658 days of time already served.
A criminal complaint reveals that Eagan Police were summoned to an Eagan hotel at approximately 11:59 p.m. on October 12, 2023, after a hotel staff member discovered an unconscious woman.
Upon arrival, first responders found the woman, later identified as Zhang, lying face down on the bed, and she was subsequently pronounced dead.
Authorities reported that Wong had entered the hotel and met Zhang for a massage, after which he paid her for sexual services.
Wong allegedly informed the police that Zhang then claimed their encounter had been recorded by hidden cameras in the room and demanded additional money from him.
Wong stated that he then “choked her out,” but believed she was still breathing when he departed.
An autopsy determined that Zhang’s cause of death was strangulation.
