James Snodgrass Obituary, Death; – A community in Chester County is mourning the loss of a 93-year-old man following a house fire that occurred early Sunday morning, which also left his son hospitalized.
The fire ignited at approximately 5:30 a.m. in a residence located on the 700 block of Taylor Road in Uwchlan Township.
At the time of the incident, two men were present in the home. One was able to escape, while the other became trapped and perished in the flames.
Family members have identified the deceased as James Snodgrass, 93, and his 59-year-old son Robert, who sustained serious injuries and is currently hospitalized.
“There was flaming ash coming into our yard over there,” stated neighbor Sarah Williams, who recorded video footage of the fire as she rushed to the scene.
Williams mentioned that she was awakened by a loud banging on her door around 5:30 a.m. but did not immediately comprehend the situation.
The Uwchlan Township police responded promptly, followed by the Lionville Fire Company and other nearby fire departments.
In the wake of this tragedy, community members have come together to support the family and assist in the search for their missing cat, Buttons.
Neighbor Stephanie Falcone remarked that although she did not know James Snodgrass well, she remembered his generosity.
“He would gather kernels and feed the deer from his hand,” Falcone recalled, noting how her children would observe him feeding the wildlife while waiting for the school bus.
The Chester County fire marshal is currently investigating the cause and origin of the fire, including the status of smoke detectors in the home.
In light of this unfortunate event, the Lionville Fire Department has encouraged residents to verify that their smoke detectors are in proper working order.
