Aaron James Wingate Obituary, Death; – A state report released on Thursday disclosed the identity of the individual who was fatally shot after leading law enforcement on a high-speed pursuit in a stolen box truck across multiple counties in East Texas.

As per a report from the Texas Attorney General’s Office, 41-year-old engaged in a police chase while operating a stolen box truck on September 11, with several marked law enforcement units in pursuit. Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Adam Albritton indicated that the chase originated in Forney and traversed several counties before concluding in Smith County.

Throughout the hour-long pursuit, Wingate drove against oncoming traffic, prompting numerous drivers and officers to take evasive measures to prevent collisions. He continued to evade capture, even after law enforcement deployed tire deflation devices, according to the report.

After disregarding both verbal and visual commands from law enforcement, Wingate was shot in the 15000 block of State Highway 31 West to “terminate his ongoing use of deadly force, which posed a threat to motorists, including law enforcement,” as stated in the document.

Wingate was subsequently hospitalized but later succumbed to his injuries. The report indicated that his cause of death was a gunshot wound, and the manner of death was classified as justifiable homicide.

Had he been apprehended, Wingate would have faced charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and evading arrest using a motor vehicle, according to the report.
