Gavin J Long Obituary, Death; – Authorities have identified a motorcyclist who was killed in a three-vehicle accident on Sunday along Interstate 78 in Salisbury Township.
The individual who lost his life has been named as 20-year-old Gavin J. Long from Middle Paxton Township, Dauphin County. Long was declared dead at the scene at 11:15 a.m. due to multiple blunt force injuries sustained in the crash, which was ruled accidental by Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio.
No other injuries were reported.
Trooper Nathan Branosky, the public information officer for Pennsylvania State Police’s Troop M, stated that the incident occurred around 10 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of the highway, near mile marker 58.8. At the time of the accident, Long was riding a 2024 Yamaha in the middle lane, while the driver of a 2022 Volvo semi-trailer was traveling just ahead of him, according to Branosky.
A third driver, who was operating a 2025 Cadillac Escalade, occupied the left lane next to Long, he noted. As Long attempted to change lanes, he sideswiped the rear driver’s side of the semi-trailer, which resulted in him being thrown forward and subsequently struck by the rig, Branosky explained.
During the collision, Long’s motorcycle also impacted the passenger-side front fender and bumper of the Cadillac, Branosky added.
The crash is currently under investigation by the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office, Pennsylvania State Police in Fogelsville, and the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office.
