Carlos Jackson Obituary, Death; – St. Louis Police report that an armed teenager was shot and killed by an officer after fleeing from a vehicle linked to a violent carjacking in North City.
The incident occurred yesterday afternoon in the Hyde Park neighborhood, and the fatal encounter has left local residents unsettled, not only due to the violence but also because of the young age of the individual involved.
Police indicate that 18-year-old Carlos Jackson was shot and killed after he ran from officers who were investigating a stolen Ford Fusion, which had been carjacked just hours prior near Blair Avenue and Palm Street.
Detectives state that Jackson disregarded commands to drop a firearm during a foot pursuit. Officers discharged their weapons in an alley close to Salisbury and North 20th Street.
He was declared dead at the scene.
As the force investigation unit examines the shooting, some community members express that the incident highlights broader issues regarding safety and youth violence.
“It’s alarming, bothersome, and worrisome. We consider this a quiet neighborhood, but when it strikes close to home, you become concerned,” remarked resident Norman King. “That’s why we initiated our block unit to keep each other informed and to seek a better response from City Hall and the police.”
King noted that a recent carjacking involving an elderly neighbor accelerated their block unit’s information-sharing efforts. However, the more significant concern lies in parenting and the absence of positive guidance for the youth, according to King.
“They’re not fulfilling their roles as parents. It’s likely a deficiency in parenting, primarily because someone raised these individuals, and their actions or inactions reflect that. It’s a community-wide parenting issue that we must tackle collectively,” King stated.
King also urges city officials to enhance resources and support before another life is lost.
