Phillip Lee Harris Obituary, Death; – A man from Canton received a sentence on Friday for the shooting death of a 75-year-old man outside a bar.
As stated in a release from the Stark County Prosecutor’s Office, 26-year-old Samuel Shank was sentenced to a term of 29 years to life in prison for charges including murder, felonious assault, and abduction.
These charges arose from an altercation at the Old Landmark Tavern located in the 5200 block of Ridge Ave. SE at 11:46 p.m. on March 24.
During this altercation, Shank shot the victim twice, once in the chest and once in the abdomen, as per the release. The victim was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The deceased was later identified as Phillip Lee Harris, a resident of northwest Canton.
According to the release, Shank also held patrons inside the tavern at gunpoint, preventing them from exiting.
