Dan Wilson Obituary, Death; – The family of Dan Wilson, a legislator from Montgomery County, confirmed to CBS6 on Thursday morning that he was the individual who lost his life in the plane crash at Block Island on Wednesday.
A devastating plane crash at Block Island State Airport has resulted in one fatality and two individuals being hospitalized. The private aircraft, which took off from Albany International Airport, crashed yesterday afternoon during its third landing attempt.
The aircraft, owned by Condair Flyers Flying Club and stationed at Albany Airport, departed at 10:50 a.m. on Wednesday, heading towards Block Island. Flight tracking information revealed that the plane approached the runway at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour, circled the area twice, and subsequently crashed just short of the runway during its third attempt. Eyewitnesses reported observing the plane making several passes prior to the crash.
Paul Deane, the Chief of Police on Block Island, stated, “He apparently circled the airport two times before making a final approach to the runway. It seems that he landed a bit too far towards the end. They had to essentially cut open the entire side of the airplane to rescue the victims who were trapped inside.”
All three passengers aboard were in their 70s and hailed from New York. They were taken to Block Island Medical Center. Authorities have not yet disclosed their identities. CBS 6 has reached out to a woman on Facebook who asserts that her mother is one of the two survivors.
