Samuel Edgardo Rivera Obituary, Death; – Authorities have disclosed the identity of the individual who was fatally shot during an incident involving deputies following a standoff in Gainesville, close to the University of Florida, on Tuesday.
Officials have confirmed that Samuel Edgardo Rivera, aged 44, was killed during a confrontation with members of the SWAT team.
Initially, law enforcement arrived at Rivera’s residence on Northwest 9th Terrace to execute a felony narcotics warrant for his arrest. Upon attempting to enter the premises, authorities reported hearing gunfire.
A perimeter was established around the building, restricting access to parts of University Avenue. The apartment, along with several nearby structures, was evacuated to ensure the safety of individuals in the vicinity. It is important to note that the incident did not take place on the UF campus.
After several hours of standoff, SWAT team members entered the apartment, resulting in Rivera’s death. Officials have confirmed that he was armed, and there is “clear evidence” indicating that his weapon was discharged.
