Kellie Slaughter Obituary, Death; – A person sought in relation to the death of a woman nearly a week ago in Oklahoma City was found late Tuesday at a residence in the capital city of Kansas, according to officials.
The individual was subsequently discovered deceased in what appeared to be a suicide, officials reported.
The Topeka Police Department, with support from the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office, Oklahoma City Police Department, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, collaborated to investigate the matter.
At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, officials stated that Topeka police units responded to a single-story residence located at 1204 S.W. Orleans after receiving information that the wanted individual was present at that location.
A standoff occurred, and Topeka police officers managed to gain entry into the home several hours later, around 4 a.m. on Wednesday.
Upon entering the residence, police discovered the suspect deceased, which officials described as a “possible suicide.”
Topeka police units remained at the scene of the multi-colored house beyond 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, as yellow crime-scene tape was placed around the property.
The residence suffered significant damage, with shattered windows and items scattered in the front yard.
Authorities later on Wednesday morning provided details regarding the events that transpired at the residence, which is situated immediately south of the rainbow-colored Equality House and directly east across the street from Westboro Baptist Church.
Officials indicated that the case originated from a homicide reported following a house fire on Thursday morning, July 24, at 2237 S.W. 76th St., located on the south side of Oklahoma City.
Oklahoma City police investigators were summoned to the fire scene and determined that the victim, identified as 45-year-old Kellie Slaughter, had injuries consistent with homicide.
A warrant was issued for the individual suspected in Slaughter’s death, officials stated, prompting officers to visit the residence late Tuesday in a typically quiet neighborhood of west Topeka.
Oklahoma City police announced on Wednesday morning that they would not release the suspect’s name until next-of-kin had been notified.
