Eryn Montgomery Obituary, Death; – A hit-and-run incident occurred in front of a Newark elementary school on Monday night, resulting in the death of one pedestrian and serious injuries to another. Authorities report that the suspected driver was apprehended after returning to the scene.
As per the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, the incident transpired around 9 p.m. in front of George Washington Carver Elementary School when a 2014 white Ford Econoline Van collided with two women.
The driver, identified as Segundo Carlos Bunay, 33, from Newark, fled the scene following the crash but later returned, according to prosecutors. Eryn Montgomery, 28, was declared deceased at University Hospital, while Kieonna Jones, 40, is said to be in stable condition, as reported by authorities on Tuesday.
Bunay faces multiple charges, including first-degree vehicular homicide while driving under the influence in a school zone, second-degree reckless vehicular homicide, second-degree leaving the scene of a crash that resulted in death, second-degree assault by auto while driving under the influence in a school zone, third-degree leaving the scene of a crash resulting in serious bodily injury, and two counts of third-degree endangering an injured victim.
