Brook Cheuvront Obituary, Death; – A 20-year-old American student from North Carolina was discovered deceased following her disappearance during a hike on Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa, according to officials.
The remains of Brook Cheuvront, a student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, were retrieved on Sunday. She was reported missing on Saturday when a tracking application she utilized ceased to update, and her friends were unable to contact her, as stated by SANParks spokesman JP Louw to The Associated Press.
“She has been recovered, and we are heartbroken. God help me and us,” wrote Steve Cheuvront, who has been identified by WCNC as her father, in a Facebook post.
The circumstances surrounding Cheuvront’s death remain uncertain. The second-year student was engaged in an internship at the University of Cape Town and, as reported by WNCN, was not only a Morehead-Cain scholar but also the valedictorian of Avery County High School in 2022, where her mother is employed.
