William Benes Obituary, Death; – A man from Las Vegas was killed in a crash in Lander County.
Around 4:30 p.m. on July 20, NHP Troopers were called to a crash on State Route 305 between Austin and Battle Mountain. Their initial investigation found that a 1991 Jeep Cherokee was driving south, followed by a white 2026 Freightliner.
They say the Jeep crossed the center line into the northbound lane and collided with a white 2020 Ford F-150. The Jeep sideswiped the truck, causing it to veer into the southbound lane and collide with the Freightliner. The Ford left the roadway, coming to rest on the highway, while the Freightliner jackknifed and blocked both lanes of SR305. The Jeep also left the roadway and overturned.
The driver of the Ford F-150 was identified as 55-year-old William Benes of Las Vegas. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of the Jeep and Freightliner both sustained non-life threatening injuries and were taken to a hospital.
