Hernandez Hubbard II Obituary, Death; – A father from Columbus and his family are grieving the loss of their 21-year-old son, who was tragically killed early Tuesday morning.
Hernandez Hubbard II lost his life in a fatal shooting on Stone Way Drive. His father, Hernandez Hubbard, expressed that the family is heartbroken and fears for their safety with the assailant still at large.
‘’If individuals can commit such acts and evade capture, then no one is secure in this city,” the father remarked.
The Hubbard family experienced what they thought was a typical night as they slept in their respective rooms. At approximately 5:50 a.m., gunfire erupted within their home on Stoneway Drive, located in north Columbus off Warm Springs Road.
‘’My son was asleep. Some individuals came by and began shooting, firing around 25 to 30 rounds, and struck my son in the head once,” Hubbard recounted.
Nearby residents expressed their disbelief at the occurrence of a drive-by shooting so close to their homes.
‘’I was genuinely shocked when the police officer knocked on my door around 7 o’clock yesterday morning and inquired if I had heard gunfire at 5:45. I replied no, sir. I wasn’t even awake at that time,’’ one resident stated.
The 21-year-old was rushed to Piedmont Columbus Regional for medical care and subsequently transferred to a hospital in the Atlanta area, where he succumbed to his injuries. His father mentioned that his son had recently become a father.
‘’My son was eagerly anticipating being a father and being present in his son’s life, and to have that taken away from him is simply heartbreaking.’’
Hubbard noted that his son held a full-time job to support his child and enjoyed rapping during his leisure time.
‘’I believe that may have contributed to this situation due to the nature of the lyrics he was rapping about,” he commented.
His father asserted that no song or lyrics justified the loss of his son’s life. He conveyed a message to the individual responsible for the shooting.
‘’I want them to understand that they are cowards. I want to know who raised them because to stand there and fire that many shots at someone’s home means that no one is safe,” he stated.
Detectives are requesting assistance from the public.
