Christopher James Stutler Obituary, Death; – The 51-year-old man shot and killed by Fort Wayne Police Department officers Monday afternoon has been identified.

Police were sent to the intersection of West State Boulevard and Cass Street after multiple people reported a suicidal person in the area, FWPD Public Information Officer Adam Hartman said Monday. There, they encountered Christopher James Stutler, who said he was armed.

Stutler allegedly then pulled out a gun and an officer or officers responded by firing shots at him. He was rendered aid at the scene and transported to an area hospital where he later died.

Stutler died from multiple gunshot wounds, the Allen County Coroner’s Office says. His death has been ruled a homicide.

Indiana State Police and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating, as well as the FWPD Internal Affairs Division. Officers present during the shooting are being placed on administrative leave per department policy.
