Christopher Martin-Holmes Obituary, Death;- Two individuals have been identified following a car chase in Twiggs County that culminated in an officer shooting and killing a man, as stated in a press release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
According to the press release, Christopher Martin-Holmes, aged 26, and Phillip Ellison Jr., aged 23, were traveling on I-16 West in Twiggs County at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Friday when Twiggs County deputies attempted to pull them over for a traffic infraction.
As per the release, Martin-Holmes and Ellison did not stop and continued driving, which initiated a pursuit. They ultimately crashed near the Exit 12 off-ramp on I-16.
Upon the deputies’ approach, the release indicates that shots were fired from within the suspects’ vehicle. A deputy returned fire, striking Martin-Holmes, as reported in the release. He was declared dead at the scene.
The release further states that Ellison was apprehended and subsequently booked into the Twiggs County Jail, where he faces charges of aggravated assault.
The GBI has indicated that Martin-Holmes has been transported to the GBI Crime Lab in Macon for an autopsy. The investigation by the GBI regarding this incident remains active and ongoing. 13WMAZ will continue to monitor this story as new information and updates are made available.
