Deandre Campbell Obituary, Death; – A man who was killed in one of four separate shootings in Lansing over the weekend has been identified as Deandre Campbell, aged 36.
Campbell was part of a group gathered for a memorial service for a deceased individual in the 3800 block of Wilson Avenue when the shooting occurred at approximately 3:45 a.m. on Sunday, July 20, according to Lansing Police Chief Rob Backus.
Backus, who conducted a news conference on Monday, July 21, stated that he had no information regarding suspects to disclose but described the investigation as “very, very active.”
Campbell was one of four individuals shot in as many incidents during a notably violent weekend in Lansing, which included a 15-year-old girl who was injured when shots were fired into a crowd at a party in the 2500 block of Risdale Avenue around 10:45 p.m. on Saturday, July 19. Backus reported that the girl was in critical but stable condition and was anticipated to survive.
Police intended to pursue charges against an 18-year-old man and a 20-year-old man in relation to that incident, Backus mentioned.
A 26-year-old man received treatment and was released after being shot in what police described as an attempted robbery on the evening of Saturday, July 19. Two juveniles, aged 16 and 17, were taken into custody concerning that incident, while a third suspect remained at large, Backus noted.
Another shooting occurred around 10:50 p.m. on July 20 in the 3100 block of Turner Street. A 50-year-old man was treated and released after being shot following an argument that began inside a store and escalated outside. No arrests had been made, but investigators have identified “a person of interest,” he stated.
As far as the police were aware on Monday, none of the shootings that occurred over the weekend were connected, the chief indicated.
