Crystal Gonzalez Obituary, Death;- A man from Northern California fatally shot his wife in a residence located in Garden Grove before driving to Stockton, where he shot and injured another man before turning the gun on himself, according to authorities.
Garden Grove police received a call shortly after 8 a.m. on Thursday, July 17, regarding a welfare check at a home in the 11500 block of Morgan Lane, situated just south of Orangewood Avenue, as stated by Sgt. Nick Jensen.
Inside the residence, police discovered the body of 37-year-old Crystal Gonzalez from Lodi, Jensen reported. The couple’s two children were found unharmed within the home and were unaware of the events that transpired. The circumstances surrounding Gonzalez’s death were not revealed by law enforcement.
Authorities identified the suspect as Miguel Lopez, 35, who is Gonzalez’s husband and was reportedly seen leaving the residence early Thursday morning. The neighborhood, characterized by single-family homes, is located less than a mile south of Disneyland.
The family was staying in a short-term rental at the property. Police were uncertain about any plans the family may have had during their visit. The Stockton Police Department informed Garden Grove police that Lopez was involved in a shooting incident within their jurisdiction.
According to CBS News, Lopez shot another man at a gym in Stockton before turning the gun on himself. The Stockton police did not confirm Lopez as the shooter, only stating that the shooter was 35 years old and had died. The victim, a 55-year-old man, was taken to the hospital, as reported by police.
Lopez was previously employed as a California Highway Patrol officer, having last worked with the department in 2022, according to the network. It remains unclear whether the two men had any prior acquaintance. On Friday, Jensen mentioned that investigators had not uncovered any criminal history for Lopez, and the motives behind the shootings were still unknown.
