Dontre Williams Obituary, Death; – Authorities have apprehended two individuals in relation to the homicide of a 24-year-old man in east Charlotte. Dontre Williams was fatally shot in the 1900 block of Milton Road on June 24. On Wednesday, the CMPD announced that detectives had identified a 17-year-old suspect in this case.
The juvenile was charged with murder on July 8. Subsequently, on Thursday, police reported the arrest of Antonio Ray, 21, on charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder, as per the latest update from the police department. CMPD also released mid-year statistics on Thursday indicating that there were 42 homicides in Charlotte from January to June, a decrease from 59 during the same period last year.
In addition to the 29% reduction, the police department noted that there have been four homicides recorded in July thus far. The office of Mecklenburg District Attorney Spencer Merriweather stated on Friday that its homicide team successfully convicted 46 defendants in the first half of the year, according to a news release.
