Michael Simmons Jr. was fatally shot early on July 9 in the 6000 block of Coja Street, close to the intersection of Patrick Lane and Cimarron Road, as confirmed by the Clark County coroner’s office. Last week, Las Vegas police reported that they received several calls shortly after 12:38 a.m. regarding a person shot in a garage at a nearby residence. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man with multiple gunshot wounds, later identified as Simmons, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to police, a white Dodge Charger with a black front bumper was observed circling the neighborhood several times prior to the shooting. During a briefing on Thursday, Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Steven Riback stated that the vehicle subsequently stopped in front of a residence, and several individuals exited the vehicle.
Riback indicated that more than 30 rounds were discharged during the incident, noting that only one individual was shot. The vehicle then departed the area, according to police.
As of Monday, a GoFundMe digital fundraiser aimed at covering funeral expenses and providing support for Simmons’ daughter had raised nearly $4,100 of its stated $8,000 goal. The organizer, Kentrell Simmons, was not immediately available for comment.
Kentrell Simmons mentioned in the fundraiser that his older brother, Michael Simmons, was a “caring soul with a big heart, always putting others before himself,” and was described as a devoted father to a young daughter. Additionally, Michael Simmons was a licensed barber who would offer his services free of charge to parents in need, as stated in the post.
