Domonick Knight Obituary, Death; – A man was shot and killed following an armed standoff with police in Fall River, Massachusetts, while undergoing a mental health crisis, as stated by the city’s police department on Tuesday.
Officers from Fall River responded to a residence early Tuesday morning after receiving a report from family members indicating that a male relative was experiencing a mental health crisis.
The family reported that the individual, later identified as Domonick Knight, 38, was armed and had expressed intentions to harm himself, according to police.
“While securing the area, additional calls continued to come in from family members, reiterating the male’s intent to harm himself. Given the nature and urgency of the situation, medical personnel were requested to stage nearby,” Fall River police stated. “At approximately 2:25 AM, a trained Crisis Negotiator arrived on scene and initiated multiple attempts to communicate with the male using phone calls, text messages, and a loudspeaker. Despite all efforts, communication was not successfully established.”
After an hour of attempts to engage with Knight, police breached the front door and reported observing movement at the top of a staircase near the home’s entrance.
According to police, this is when Knight began firing at Emergency Services Unit officers, who had arrived to assist during the standoff. The ESU officers returned fire and continued to attempt communication with the individual, police reported.
A flash-bang was deployed, and Knight was again seen at the top of the staircase, armed with a short-barreled rifle beneath his body and a handgun near his hand.
Knight sustained a gunshot wound to the head. Police have not confirmed whether one of their bullets fired during the incident struck Knight.
He received medical assistance and was taken into custody, according to police. His current condition has not been disclosed.
“I can’t believe this is happening,” Knight’s sister, Danielle Otarro, expressed. “I truly seek justice for my brother because some foul actions occurred, and they targeted a mental health crisis.”
