Lamar McGlothurn Obituary, Death; – The county coroner has identified a young boy who was killed when he was struck by a tree branch that fell on him at a summer camp in Calabasas.
Eight-year-old Lamar McGlothurn, of Los Angeles, died in the July 9 tragedy at King Gillette Ranch, according to the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office. Blunt force crush injuries were listed as the cause of death. Four other campers were injured. At least two were hospitalized with minor injuries.
The campers were sitting under the large tree in the Santa Monica Mountains when a branch snapped and fell. Lamar died at a hospital. A young girl was airlifted from the ranch, but is expected to recover.
Camp Wildcraft, geared toward young nature lovers, was in its fourth week. The camp has two campuses in Malibu and Calabasas. This summer, the location was moved back to Calabasas due to recent wildfires.
“We are devastated by the tragic loss of a young child at a summer camp at King Gillette Ranch in the Santa Monica Mountains. Words cannot express the depth of our sorrow. Our hearts are with the child’s family, friends, and all those affected by this unimaginable tragedy,” wrote the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority.
