Bruce Harry Garcia Obituary, Death; – Two officers with the Philadelphia Police Department and an armed suspect were identified by officials nearly two months after the officers shot and killed the suspect.
This all began just after 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21 when Philly officers Edward Lane and Matthew Galdo saw 25-year-old Bruce Harry Garcia holding a black-colored bag in the area of Front and Somerset streets, officials said.
The officers tried to stop Garcia, but he ran away westbound along Somerset Street, police said. Officer Lane ran after him while Officer Gardo followed them in a marked police car.
Once the officers caught up with Garcia near Mutter and Somerset streets, a struggle broke out between the three men as Lane and Gardo forced Garcia to the ground, according to police.
Officials reported that Garcia was trying to get a weapon out of his black bag during the struggle, and as he tried to do this the gun went off.
Gardo and Lane each fired their own weapons and hit Garcia in his chest, police said. Garcia ultimately dropped his weapon and bag.
