Alex Habib Obituary, Death; – Roseville police report that a 28-year-old father of two has died after his vehicle was struck by a 16-year-old who was evading law enforcement in the early hours of July 12.

According to police, an officer in a marked patrol vehicle attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the vicinity of I-94 and Gratiot Avenue at approximately 2:40 a.m. following a report of a black Hyundai Sonata that had been recently stolen from a nearby neighborhood.

The police stated that the driver failed to stop, prompting a pursuit to commence. The pursuit concluded when the 16-year-old driver ran a red light at 11 Mile near Van Dyke, colliding with a Ford Fusion.

The victim has been identified by family as 28-year-old Alex Habib. His wife, Danielle, informed us that Habib was a dedicated husband and father to two children, a 1-year-old daughter and a 3-month-old son.

Danielle shared with 7 News Detroit that he held two jobs to support the family, including working as a server at Jim Brady’s in Royal Oak, where he was scheduled for a double shift that day. She mentioned that he was trying to find time to go to the gym.

“I wish they would consider finding alternative methods to track these individuals down,” Danielle expressed to us on Sunday night. “Alex was an innocent bystander. He left behind many people who loved and cared for him, and he was simply going about his day when he was killed over something that could have been prevented.”

In the aftermath of the crash, donations have been flooding in to assist the young family left behind. If you wish to contribute, the family has established a GoFundMe page to which you can donate via this link.

Police report that the 16-year-old suspect involved in the incident was treated for injuries at a local hospital and is currently being held at the Macomb County Juvenile Justice Center while awaiting charges. Authorities believe the suspect is part of an organized group targeting residents in Macomb County.

“This is a tragedy on multiple levels, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family and friends. Additionally, our officers who respond to such tragic events are also affected by them,” stated the Roseville Police Department.
