Veronika McCoy,Douglas Bachtell Obituary, Death; – The Delaware State Police are conducting an investigation into a crash that resulted in the deaths of two individuals on Tuesday morning, following a Chevrolet Camaro that swerved into oncoming traffic on Lighthouse Road.
According to troopers, the incident occurred at approximately 7:54 a.m. on July 8, when the eastbound Camaro crossed the double-yellow center line near New Road, colliding with a westbound Hyundai Santa Fe. The front of the Camaro struck the front of the Santa Fe, causing significant damage to both vehicles.
Veronika McCoy, a 22-year-old resident of Berlin and the driver of the Camaro, was transported to a local hospital, where she subsequently passed away.
Douglas Bachtell, a 77-year-old from Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, who occupied the right front seat of the Santa Fe, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Santa Fe, a 74-year-old man from Selbyville, was taken to a hospital with critical injuries.
The Delaware State Police reported that Lighthouse Road was closed for several hours while the Collision Reconstruction Unit examined the site and crews worked to clear the wreckage.
