Craig Anderson Obituary, Death; Person of interest in Delaware City fatal shooting now faces murder charge, police say

Craig Anderson Obituary, Death;- A 22-year-old man has been charged with the murder of another man in Delaware City, which triggered an extensive manhunt lasting several hours in a mobile home park on July 7, according to New Castle County police.

Shane Brank, initially identified by police as a person of interest after being seen fleeing the crime scene, has been charged with first-degree murder and a weapons-related offense. The victim of the shooting, aged 39, has been named by police as Craig Anderson.

During their investigation, authorities stated that Brank and Anderson had engaged in a dispute, during which Brank allegedly retrieved a firearm and discharged multiple rounds, hitting Anderson. Following the incident, Brank fled the location. Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Fifth Street in the Delaware City Mobile Home Community shortly before 9:30 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Anderson suffering from several gunshot wounds, as reported by police. Despite attempts to save his life, Anderson succumbed to his injuries. County police released a statement around 10 a.m. indicating that they were responding to a shooting incident.

Patrol Officers, in conjunction with members from the K9 Unit, Mounted Unit, Traffic Services Unit, Fugitive Apprehension and Surveillance Team, Active Crime Trend Team, SWAT Team, Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Unit, and Crime Analysis Unit, collaborated to gather real-time intelligence regarding Brank’s whereabouts.

Officers conducted searches along the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal, in adjacent wooded areas, and within nearby residential neighborhoods. Police were observed outside the mobile home park, stopping and inspecting vehicles departing the area.

Brank was located at approximately 1:10 p.m. in the backyard of a home on the 200 block of Seventh Street and was apprehended without further incident.

He is currently held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after being unable to post bail set at $560,000.
