Antonio Hernandez-Bazan Obituary, Death; Moped rider struck and killed by SUV driver in Astoria early Monday morning: NYPD

Antonio Hernandez-Bazan Obituary, Death; – A man from Southeast Queens was tragically struck and killed by an SUV driver while riding his moped in Astoria during the early hours of Monday, June 7.

Officers from the 114th Precinct in Astoria responded to a 911 report of a motor vehicle accident near 37th Street and 23rd Avenue shortly before 3 a.m., where they discovered the moped rider lying on the road with significant head injuries.

Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was declared deceased. He was later identified as Antonio Hernandez-Bazan, a 39-year-old resident of 161st Street in Jamaica.

An investigation conducted by the NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad revealed that Hernandez-Bazan was riding his moped eastbound on 23rd Avenue when he was struck by a 22-year-old man driving a 2019 Subaru Forester who was heading northbound on 37th Street.

The collision caused Hernandez-Bazan to be thrown from his moped onto the roadway, resulting in a head injury. The driver of the SUV and his 21-year-old female passenger declined medical assistance at the scene.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is still ongoing by the NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad.
