Alberto Garcia Hernandez Duran Jr Obituary, Death; – A motorist who was fatally shot on Interstate 5 last week is believed to have been killed in retaliation for a shooting that killed a woman in Wasco the day before, according to a court filing.

Juan Humberto Loza, 28, is charged with murder and other charges in the June 30 death of Alberto Garcia Hernandez Duran Jr., 38, of Wasco.

Duran told a California Highway Patrol officer the person who shot him was in a white Ford F-150 with a motorcycle in the bed, according to a probable cause declaration. He died while being taken to Kern Medical.

Investigators reviewed surveillance video that captured a white Ford F-150 “lying in wait” before following Duran’s vehicle, according to the declaration. The shooting occurred on I-5 south of Highway 46. Loza was identified as the Ford’s driver “after numerous interviews,” according to the declaration.

Two people told investigators Loza and Duran were involved in a shootout the day before that killed Marissa Ramirez-Tellez, 34, in the 700 block of Wildwood Road. One of those people said he heard Duran was shot in retaliation, according to the declaration.

Loza was arrested July 1 after a chase through almond orchards and a five-hour standoff in the 18800 block of Beech Avenue, according to the declaration. Investigators recovered a handgun while searching the area. Loza is being held without bail and is due back in court July 16.
