Gabriel Lee Obituary, Death; – Gabriel Lee, aged 27, was enjoying the holiday weekend with his family when his life was abruptly taken from him on Saturday. His family is now pursuing justice.
“How many mothers must endure this pain?” asked Lee’s mother, Pastor Nekisha Cosey. “They have to communicate with funeral homes and the medical examiner, only to hear the term ‘homicide’?” Lee was one of two sons who tragically lost their lives on Saturday.
“Although my grief is immense and deep, and you can sense the anger in my voice, my anger is also directed towards Colby’s mother,” Cosey expressed. “My son was 27, but her son was only 18.” Colby Smith was the other young man who was fatally shot in the tragic incident in Uptown.
“I cannot fathom a young person who has just graduated high school and has not yet had the chance to experience life, while his parents are forced to make funeral arrangements,” Cosey lamented. Lee’s parents previously resided in Charlotte. Despite now living out of state, they are urging the local community to initiate change.
“We do not want our son’s death to be in vain,” stated Lee’s father, Pastor Nicholas Cosey. “Therefore, we are advocating — at the state level, governmental level, and within the community — for an end to violence, particularly in the areas where they have influence. We can no longer remain silent about the ongoing violence.”
Lee’s family is planning to hold a memorial on Saturday to commemorate and honor his life. A GoFundMe page has also been established for those who wish to contribute to Lee’s funeral expenses.
