Rosevelt Vann Jr Obituary, Death; – A man has been charged by the police in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident involving a bicyclist that occurred in Hartford last October.
Jhaki Gunter, 24, from New Britain, surrendered to authorities on Monday evening regarding the incident that resulted in the death of 27-year-old Rosevelt Vann, Jr. from East Hartford, as stated by Lt. Aaron Boisvert of the Hartford Police Department.
He is facing multiple charges, including misconduct with a motor vehicle, evading responsibility in relation to a death, reckless driving, failure to maintain proper lane discipline, disobeying a traffic control signal, operating an unregistered vehicle, and improper use of a license or registration, according to Boisvert.
When police arrived at the 600 block of Albany Avenue shortly after midnight on October 20, they found Vann suffering from severe injuries following a report of a collision between a car and a bicycle, Boisvert noted. Investigators later determined that the driver fled the scene in a black Infiniti sedan, traveling east on Albany Avenue and then south on Garden Street, as per Boisvert’s account.
Vann was transported by ambulance to the emergency room at Saint Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 2:30 a.m., Boisvert reported.
Detectives from the Crime Scene Division arrived at the location and took over the investigation. They successfully identified Gunter as a suspect before securing a warrant for his arrest, Boisvert indicated. After turning himself in, he was taken to the Hartford Police Detention Facility.
