Nick Laureys Obituary, Death; – Officials have provided an update regarding the hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a 15-year-old bicyclist in the northwest suburbs.
On Wednesday evening, two 15-year-olds were riding their bicycles south on Terra Cotta Road, close to the intersection with Deering Oaks Lane in unincorporated Crystal Lake, shortly after 9:30 p.m., when a vehicle struck one of the cyclists from behind, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle did not stop, as reported by the sheriff’s office.
Nick Laureys, aged 15, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, as confirmed by his family. Authorities stated that he had a red taillight activated on his bicycle. The sheriff’s office indicated that the vehicle involved may have been a dark-colored red Jeep Cherokee from the years 2017-2018.
On Monday, the sheriff announced that they had located the suspect vehicle. As of now, no arrests have been made. The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is urging the public, as well as local body shops and dealerships, to reach out if they encounter a similar vehicle with front-end damage.
