Kristen Porter Arrested; – A woman was apprehended at the location of a shooting that resulted in the death of a man and a Darlington County deputy who was responding to the incident. Following a hearing on Wednesday in Florence County court, she was granted a bond set at $16,000.
Kristen Porter, aged 28, was taken into custody at the scene on Tuesday and faces charges of criminal conspiracy, two counts of forgery, and a second-degree computer offense. Her subsequent court appearance is scheduled for September 27 at 9 a.m.
Deputy Devin Mason, aged 27, succumbed to his injuries after he and another deputy were reportedly “ambushed” inside a mobile home located on Old Timers Court near Lamar. They had responded to the area in search of a man wanted for conspiracy and forgery charges, as stated in a news release from Sheriff Michael August’s office. The identity of the second deputy, who remains hospitalized in stable condition, has not yet been disclosed.
The suspect involved in the shooting has been identified by August’s office as Cameron Ray Dennett. Deputies also apprehended Porter at the scene, and she was subsequently booked into the Florence County Detention Center due to outstanding arrest warrants issued there.
Mason marks the second officer from the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office to be killed in the line of duty, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page website. Sheriff Alton Grinnell lost his life in an automobile accident on July 11, 1945.
