William Scott Lowry Obituary, Death; – The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a 21-year-old man from Old Hickory in connection with the murder of an 81-year-old from North Carolina.
WCSO reports that deputies arrested Nicolai Chisala Hubbeling on May 29. The sheriff’s office said deputies arrested Hubbeling during a coordinated vehicle takedown near his Wilson County home.
The 21-year-old is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the 2024 disappearance and death of William Scott Lowry of Ammon, North Carolina. “Lowry was reported missing in late August 2024 after last being seen walking near his home on FL McDaniel Road in rural Bladen County,” WCSO said.
The sheriff’s office said a joint investigation was launched with authorities in North Carolina following an anonymous tip received by Bladen County authorities in April 2025. The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office said that the tip came from a caller on April 22.
“On April 22, 2025 Bladen County Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous tip. The caller stated Nicolai Hubbling had reportedly told several acquaintances about his love of killing animals to dissect but it wasn’t enough he wanted more. Hubbling reportedly stated he had shot and killed William Lowry who appeared to be hitchhiking just outside of Fayetteville on a rural road in Bladen County and disposed of his body in an unknown location.”
“Investigators from both agencies worked collaboratively to bring him into custody safely and efficiently,” WCSO said. “Hubbeling is currently being held without bond at the Wilson County Detention Center, where he awaits extradition proceedings to Bladen County, North Carolina.”
