Jacob Allen Rose Obituary, Death; Gilbert police officers fatally shot a man who allegedly brandished a firearm during a welfare check. In a statement to The Arizona Republic, the Gilbert Police Department named him as 24-year-old Jacob Allen Rose on June 12.
Rose’s family issued a response to the shooting through an attorney on June 13. The family expressed their heartbreak over the incident and their astonishment at the “poor treatment and communication it has received from the Gilbert Police Department,” stated Stacy Scheff, the attorney representing the family, in a written statement.
Scheff noted that the family has not been provided with a written account of Rose’s death by the Gilbert police, nor have they heard from the chaplain or victims’ services personnel, and they have been “forced to learn about the developments” through news outlets.
“The GPD’s silence speaks volumes about what occurred in the moments leading up to their officers shooting and killing Jacob,” Scheff remarked. On June 11 at approximately 6 p.m., officers responded to a welfare check near Lindsay and Guadalupe roads after receiving reports that Rose was slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle in the eastbound lanes of Guadalupe Road.
According to police, they knocked on the car window, waking Rose. He exited the vehicle and shortly thereafter reached for a firearm, aiming it at the officers. In response, the officers discharged their weapons, as stated by the police. During the confrontation with the officers, Rose attempted to escape while armed and collided his vehicle with Gilbert patrol cars. Start your day with the latest news. The incident was deemed isolated and did not pose a threat to the public, police reported. No additional injuries were noted.
