Sheldon Medford Obituary, Death; – Idaho officials report that a young man has lost his life after being struck by a boulder while camping. As stated by the Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office, an 18-year-old named Sheldon Medford was crushed by a falling boulder during a camping trip on June 7.

Medford, who resided in Lewiston, was discovered deceased after 9:30 p.m., approximately a mile down Northfork Drive in the Ahsahka region. Emergency responders indicated that Medford was already trapped beneath a large boulder upon their arrival. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Reports indicate that Medford was camping and fishing alongside a friend. The boulder fell from above a riverbank, striking the friend on the arm before it crushed Medford, who had been engaged in fishing, according to the Lewiston Tribune.

In the wake of this tragedy, loved ones have initiated a GoFundMe campaign in Medford’s honor, describing the incident as a heartbreaking accident.

“This loss was sudden and has left a void in our hearts,” Ariel Sackett expressed in the fundraiser. “Sheldon touched so many throughout his life with his loving heart, kindness, laughter, and love for the outdoors.”

She continued, “Sheldon was so much more than just a son and brother; he was a best friend, a partner in crime, an avid outdoorsman, a free spirit, and a true source of joy and silliness.”

Ahsahka is located approximately 255 miles north of Boise.
