KTahna Jordin Smith Obituary, Death; – Prosecutors have charged a 14-year-old boy from Colorado Springs with first-degree murder and several counts of attempted murder, as reported by our partners at 9News.
Earlier this month, the boy was reportedly involved in a shooting that resulted in the death of a 15-year-old girl, K’Tahna Jordin Smith, and injured two others—a 20-year-old identified as Smith’s cousin and another 15-year-old girl who sustained a graze wound, according to police.
9News indicates that the 14-year-old suspect was apprehended in Colorado Springs after being taken into custody on an unrelated warrant for motor vehicle theft. Officers conducted a search of his residence, discovering two handguns that matched the caliber of shell casings found at the shooting scene, as per Aurora Police.
The boy’s identity remains undisclosed by police due to his age, with his case currently being processed in juvenile court. According to 9News, the charges against the teen include:
– First-degree murder
– Assault with a deadly weapon
– 10 counts of attempted murder with extreme indifference
– 2 counts of possession of a handgun by a juvenile
The Aurora Police Department reports that the shooting occurred early on June 1, near Aurora Fire Rescue Station 2, located in the 12600 block of East Hoffman Boulevard.
Officials state that Aurora firefighters were returning from a call when they encountered a 15-year-old girl and a 20-year-old woman who had been shot and began providing assistance. The third victim, another 15-year-old girl, was later found by police.
