Angelina Resendiz Obituary, Death; – The search for a missing sailor in Norfolk, Virginia, has concluded in a tragic manner. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service, known as NCIS, confirmed on Tuesday that they discovered the remains of 21-year-old Angelina Resendiz in a wooded area close to Norfolk’s Broad Creek neighborhood.
Another sailor, believed to be linked to her death, is currently in military confinement. On Monday night, police located a body in the vicinity of Richard Bowling Elementary School.
On Tuesday, they verified that it was Resendiz, the sailor who had been reported missing. The location is nearly nine miles from where she was last seen at her barracks on Naval Station Norfolk on May 29.
In a statement, Navy investigators expressed that the “NCIS remains dedicated to uncovering the details surrounding the tragic death of seaman Resendiz to ensure accountability and justice.” A spokesperson for Resendiz’s mother issued a statement indicating that she is heartbroken and disappointed with the Navy.
The statement partially reads, “Knowing that her daughter, a service member, had gone missing, she was horrified to find out that she was not properly notified through official channels and that, instead, she was only informed unofficially by her daughter’s staff and through media reports. This systemic failure to provide timely and official notification was unacceptable.”
Landon Smith, a local resident, shared his thoughts on the tragedy that occurred in his neighborhood. “It’s unfortunate. We are all shocked and surprised because it’s generally quiet out here, and I don’t know what to say about it. I just wish the family the best, and we can all move forward, and we all need to be vigilant for one another out here,” Smith remarked.
