Dominic Flowers Obituary, Death; – The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) has apprehended 17-year-old Joseph Ghebraamlak from Gwinnett in relation to the hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a local 15-year-old.

Ghebraamlak faces charges of first-degree vehicular homicide and hit-and-run after allegedly striking and killing a 15-year-old with his vehicle on June 2. The deceased has been identified as Dominic Flowers, a resident of Covington.

As per a press release issued by the NCSO, Ghebraamlak was taken into custody earlier today and is presently held at the Newton County Detention Center.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. on June 2, the NCSO responded to a report of a hit-and-run on Highway 36, just south of Hummingbird Lane. Upon their arrival, deputies found Flowers lying in the roadway. He was declared dead at the scene.

“Sheriff Ezell Brown extends his heartfelt condolences to the family of the victim, Dominic Flowers, during this difficult time,” the NCSO press release indicated. “He also conveys his gratitude to all those who worked diligently on this case and contributed to the arrest. This includes the Newton County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit, Criminal Investigations Division, the Alcovy Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, the Snellville Police Department, the Loganville Police Department, and all other committed personnel involved.”
