Ryan Wesley Routh identified; – The individual accused of attempting to assassinate Donald Trump at his golf course in Florida on Sunday has been identified as 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, a self-employed builder specializing in affordable housing from Hawaii, who possesses a lengthy and contentious background.
While authorities have not yet officially confirmed his identity, his son, Oran Routh, has publicly discussed his father’s arrest, portraying him as a person deeply committed to the Ukrainian cause. Ryan Routh’s connections to Ukraine are evident, as his social media activity reveals a strong dedication to supporting Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.
He previously asserted that he had traveled to Kyiv with the intention of establishing a tent city for foreign volunteers, aiming to galvanize international support for Ukraine’s military efforts. In a 2023 post, Ryan Routh proposed to Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy that American soldiers should be granted paid leave to participate as civilians in the fight in Ukraine. His son, Oran, reiterated these views, stating to reporters, “My dad went over there and witnessed people fighting and dying.
He endeavored to ensure that matters were just, but they were not.” Ryan Routh’s social media activity also indicated his disillusionment with Donald Trump. Although he supported Trump during the 2016 election, his opinion had deteriorated by 2020. “While you were my choice in 2016, I and the world hoped that President Trump would be different and better than the candidate, but we were all greatly disappointed,” Routh expressed on X in June 2020.
His resentment towards Donald Trump intensified, alongside his dissatisfaction with what he viewed as a lack of decisive action on pressing issues, including the war in Ukraine. Ryan Routh’s history is characterized by erratic conduct and encounters with law enforcement. In 2002, he was arrested in North Carolina following a standoff with police during a traffic stop, during which he barricaded himself inside a local establishment. This incident resulted in charges for possession of a fully automatic machine gun, categorized as a “weapon of mass destruction.”
