Trista Loftus Obituary, Death; – The California Highway Patrol has identified the woman who lost her life in the collision that occurred in North County on Thursday. The driver was Trista Loftus, a 22-year-old resident of Nipomo.
A tragic single-vehicle rollover accident took place on Highway 58, east of Highway 229, near Santa Margarita early this morning at approximately 1 a.m., as reported by the California Highway Patrol.
The San Luis Obispo Communications Center received an automatic cellular 911 alert regarding the traffic incident at around 1:30 p.m. Subsequently, California Highway Patrol units were dispatched to the scene for investigation.
The incident involved a 1997 Ford F-150, which had a sole female occupant from Nipomo, California. Upon arrival, emergency crews discovered her trapped inside the vehicle. The 21-year-old driver was transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, where she was later pronounced deceased.
The CHP report indicates that excessive speed was likely the primary factor in the accident, and the failure to wear a seatbelt may have exacerbated the severity of the injuries. No other vehicles were involved in this incident.
The identity of the driver is being withheld until her next of kin has been notified. At this time, it remains unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident. The investigation is ongoing, and no additional information is available at this moment.
