Royell Walker,Jamar Jackson Obituary, Death; – D.C. police reported that a man was fatally shot on Sunday evening when a stray bullet entered his apartment in Columbia Heights and inflicted mortal injuries upon him.

Metropolitan Police Executive Assistant Chief Andre Wright stated that officers received a report of a shooting at approximately 6:20 p.m. in the 1500 block of Ogden Street NW, where they found the unidentified victim while searching the vicinity for suspects.

“This is a tragic incident. There is no doubt about that. Everyone has the right to feel secure, not only within their community but also in their own homes,” Chief Wright remarked. “Our thoughts and condolences are with this family and the community, and we are committed to uncovering the truth behind this incident.”

The chief noted that no suspects have been identified in the shooting, which occurred in a rear alley adjacent to the apartment complex. Chief Wright confirmed that the deceased man was not the intended target of the gunfire.

As of Sunday evening, he indicated that investigators had only found one stray bullet that struck the apartment building — the bullet that fatally injured the victim.

“We cannot allow fear to dictate our actions,” Chief Wright asserted. “This is precisely what these offenders desire, but they are mistaken, and we will stand with this family and community to seek justice.”

The victim of the stray bullet incident was the third individual to be shot during the holiday weekend. MPD also reported that a teenage boy and a 19-year-old man were killed on Friday in a shooting in Southeast, which left another boy in critical condition. Police stated that officers arrived at the 4200 block of 4th Street Southeast to find three victims lying on the ground with gunshot wounds.

Medical personnel attempted to save Royell Walker, 16, and Jamar Jackson, 19, but both succumbed to their injuries in the street. Authorities reported that a 14-year-old boy was transported to a hospital in critical condition following the same shooting incident.

Police have not disclosed the names or identities of any suspects involved in the triple shooting. MPD data indicates that there have been 61 homicides recorded in the District this year, reflecting an 8% decrease from the 66 reported at the same time last year.
