DeVante Nathaniel Tyler Obituary, Death; – Family and police in Gladstone have identified a 21-year-old man as the victim of a deadly shooting that occurred one week ago.

According to Gladstone police, DeVante Nathaniel Tyler died May 16 at an apartment near Northeast 61st Street and North Oak Trafficway after being shot in the chest. The shooting was reported around 2:15 a.m. The suspected shooter, Bobby Colding III, has since been charged in Clay County Circuit Court with second-degree murder and armed criminal action.

Charging documents indicate the shooting took place after a fight between two of the residents, including Colding, and Tyler, who was there visiting a woman he met through a dating app.

In an interview with police, Colding said he grabbed his handgun during the confrontation and shot Tyler once. He told police he was defending himself. Colding said he called 911 after the shooting. Tyler was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police stated in the charging documents that Tyler was unarmed at the time of the shooting.

Colding remained in the county jail as of Friday. Bond has been set at $500,000. Earlier this week, the court entered a not guilty plea on Colding’s behalf during an arraignment. A bond hearing in the case is set for May 27.
