Doris Worrell Obituary, Death;- A man has been apprehended in connection with the shooting death of his wife at their business in Coffee County nearly two decades ago, as stated in a press release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Jon Worrell, aged 58, has been charged with malice murder and felony murder, among other offenses, in relation to the death of his wife, Doris Worrell, who was originally from Fort Valley before relocating to Coffee County. The incident occurred at their store, Jon’s Sport Park in Douglas, where Doris was discovered deceased from gunshot wounds.
The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the GBI in September 2006. Almost 20 years later, Jon was arrested on Monday in Maryville, Missouri, where he had moved following Doris’s death, according to the GBI. The GBI and the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office traveled to Missouri to apprehend Jon, who is now awaiting an extradition hearing to determine the timeline for his return to Coffee County, as indicated in the press release.
The agency did not disclose the specific evidence that led to Jon’s arrest in connection with his wife’s death, but noted that the GBI and the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office have diligently pursued leads both domestically and internationally throughout the investigation, remaining dedicated to uncovering the truth behind Doris’s murder. The GBI stated, ‘This arrest is the direct result of those efforts.’ The press release did not provide any insight into the motive behind Jon’s alleged actions.
However, a press conference is scheduled for Friday, where the GBI, the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, and the local district attorney’s office will present new information regarding the investigation. In addition to the murder charges, Jon is also facing charges of aggravated battery and conspiracy to commit murder.
